THE CASTELL 9000 certainly the world’s most famous pencil. Brought onto the market by Alexander Graf von Faber-Castell in 1905, its quality and finely graded hardnesses have made it a favourite tool for artists and draughtsmen. The spread of this pencil also contributed to dark green succeeding in becoming the company colour for the Faber-Castell brand. It is coated with environmentally compatible water-based paint, a technology which Faber-Castell was the first manufacturer to introduce. Its lead is completely glued together with the wooden shaft , making it especially resilient.
